How to catch a fish?

My neighbor and I both have saltwater fish tanks and we both have a fish that needs to come out. We got a fish trap, put food in it and waited, and waited and waited. I have a puffer fish that needs to come out but it won't go near the trap. Any advice on how to get the fish out? Thanks!

Wait until the lights are out and point a very bright flashlight in its eye and scoop up with net.work every time for me.i use a tlr-1 light

How big is your tank? If it's relatively small, the High & Dry method outlined in the link below has always worked well for me.

I either use an acrylic trap (requires patience) or use the lights out method. Wait until the lights have been off for a few hours and turn the tank lights on. The fish are confused and disoriented for a few minutes. I am amazed every time I use this technique how easy it is. You can pretty much grab the fish with your hands at that point. This won't work if the fish you are trying to catch buries itself in the live rock though.
