I've got the DIY coke bottle trap going to no avail. He's fast and he's SMART. The net hits the water and he disappears into the rocks. Can't disassemble. Any other tips and tricks?

Get a fish trap and put it in the tank for several days. Then only feed the tank through the trap for several days. Only once he's going in freely to eat for several days should you start to think about closing the trap door.

Exactly how I do it. They have to get used to the trap in the tank and eat in it before you close the door. Some wrasse are very scared and take weeks
Easiest way to catch any fish:
Like the person above said, use a fish trap. Except you don't need to buy one of the fancy $60 ones, just diy.
Go to your local pet shop and buy a small plastic hermit crab container with lid. Like this one, https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1...1.4740.1.tgZySAepuI4#spd=15247552782867958766
Then make a small whole in the clear plastic of the lid. Tie a piece of clear fishing line to the lid through that hole. Place the container in the tank with some sand or rock inside to keep it from floating up.
Then place some food inside the continent with the door open, wait for the fish to swim inside and pull the fishing line shut
