How To Catch A Wrasse

i need help/ideas as to how to catch a decent sized (apron. 5") Thalassoma lutescens or Banana Wrasse. He's too fast and smart for the good old net. Any ideas on how to catch him? traps or anything. need him out... Thanks in advance.

Does he dig into the sandbed when spooked? If so, you can put a cup on top of the sandbed where he digs in and then stir him out.

You could always cut eggcrate to make the area smaller.

i don't have too deep a sandbed, just a 300 gallon tank with an 8' footprint, not easy to maneuver a net in their with rock and all. maybe ill try egg crate if nothing else works. thanks

Thanks all, I ended up just literally tearing my whole tank down to catch him, a person can do anything with the right motivation... I'm actually kinda glad this happened, gave me the chance to do a quick new aqua scaping which I think came out pretty well. Excuse the dirty glass...

I wish I would have seen this earlier. I caught my six line within 3 minutes this past weekend. I took a Gatorade bottle and cut the neck off. I inverted the top part into the bottom and glued it together. I put some mysis shrimp in it and placed it in my tank slowly filling it so the food stayed settled at the bottom. Within a couple minutes my wrasse was poking around it and a minute later swam into it to feed. I quickly put my hand in the tank and over the opening of the bottle and voila, fish is trapped. It was easy, cheap, and less stressful to the fish than chasing him around with a net. I also didn't have to move any rocks or disturb any coral.
