How to catch an octopus?

Every time I hear this story from someone, the octopus gets smarter. Next time it will probably also have found the refrigeratior and stole food from there. And after that it will just order food from the internet.

They are smart but locks and security is a human concept, animals don't have.
It makes for a more fascinating story though.
Isn’t that the beginning of finding Nemo

That is too funny! I only heard the story once, as a child, and had no idea it had been circulating & growing all this time! Lol but your lock comment also got me wondering if it was one of those swing down lids, with a latch that flips forward , it could look like it was being locked after re-entry, when actually it was not… but i’ve never even seen that type on tanks, they were on small animal cages years ago… lol

There's quite a few video's of octopus opening container's and doing all sorts of things one would not think possible. Here is one example that has been going around for ages
and the opposite (IMO more impressive), one getting out of a jar instead of getting in :grinning-squinting-face:

Dude says that's not proof of anything. I already posted those. In English

It is you that is missing the point. Read my first comment, and the comments of the person i have replied to. I never said an octopus can't open a jar. Your accusations are starting to get annoying.

I had one come in on a piece of live rock a few months back and was going to release it by my wife suggested I keep it. This is it now! She works from home so she is there to interact with it throughout the day. I have it in a 50 cube. It has a screen top but it could get out at any time but it hasn't yet. Lol. The tank is right behind the couch and when I turn on the TV it comes over and seems to be watching it! Most interesting aquarium pet I've ever had! The last pic is it watching television. Lol
has he ever inked you? Do you have corals in there too to keep a natural environment? I read somewhere that you have to quickly do a large water change if he inks. Do you have pets or children? Was wondering if they scare the puss at all? Would have been a great pet through the pandemic since everyone was confined at home for a while.

This is the tank that it's in. Mushrooms and gorgonians. It gets spooked sometimes and inks but it clears up pretty quickly. My wife works from home so she interacts with it alot more than me.

Well, it also had the entire ocean to live in, but instead went with some dude in a scuba mask collecting live rock, so maybe it varies from cephalopod to cephalopod?

I read that in their voices

Do you still have the octo, op?

Squidward chilling on a Sunday afternoon!

Update!!! So I got another shipment of rock in from TBS. I took out 2 of the pieces I had in the tank (all this before fish or anything went in) and replaced it with a few “premium” pieces of LR. A week went back…never saw the octopus. I thought maybe he was on one of the rocks I removed from the tank. Lo and behold, my dogs got me up at 3 am this morning so I went to the tank with a flashlight like I always do. I’m checking out my warhead scoly and I see movement just above him…Mr Octopus is still here! I run to grab a net, come back in 15 seconds and he’s GONE. My dogs get me up at 6:15 again, guess who I spot in the same exact spot. This time I was ready. He darts to the glass, I pin my net against the glass and eventually he loosened and dove in to the net. I could not believe how fast he is. He’s currently sitting in my empty 13.5 that I had just transferred over. I’d love to keep him but if he’s not going in my 25 gallon lagoon then I’d rather him go to someone who will take good care of him in an octopus/species tank the proper way! So if anyone is in the Jax area…lol
Do you still have him? I’ve been trying to get an octopus for about a year now and I’ve had no luck. I’ve done all the research and have a tag ready for him with a couple of small fish in it if you could gift it to me I will be so happy! I was just considered disabled, so I will be home most of the days and I have plenty of time to spend with him. !
Please let me know. Thank you so much, Nicole.
