how to clean and prep new Brute trash cans

I plan to use a 20 gallon Brute trash can to store RO/DI water. When it comes in, how should it be cleaned/prepped so it is ready for the "clean" water? It seems like many people use Brute cans for water storage and salt mixing, so I am sure someone here has cleaned them before. Any thoughts?

I've only every rinsed them out with RODI water and then used them immediately. Probably done so with half a dozen different brute cans. Never had any issues. I'm sure even tap water would be fine.

Periodically mine seems to get a little dust and slight film when empty as I add about a half a cap of Prime. I use a spray bottle with 1/2 RODI fresh and 1/2 white distilled vinegar. I spray it before purifying another round of RODI in the Brute, wipe it good and dry, then crank of the RODI unit. I've done so for many years and always have TDS of zero. I would imagine just rinsing would be fine as others mention. Just how I've always done it. Again, I'm weird like that. haha

They Grey Brute containers have been proven to leach Phosphates , I believe it is reefnation that did a write up on it.

It's possible they leach phosphates, not disagreeing there but I did do a icp water test and I tested my rodi which is in the brute can. The rodi in the can was probably about 3-4weeks old when tested other than top offs from evap in the tank. No issues were found, no phosphate or heavy metals other than tin that was still in the green. All in all it was a clean bucket of rodi that I initially rinsed out with a garden hose and been using for 2 years now

Most everything new I use in and around the tank gets a tap rinse then an RO/DI rinse.
