Grab a hose with a jet nosel on it, spray it down and it becomes like new again. This always works for me.then I just rinse it with rodi water,

Run the washer at quick wash with nothing in. Then throw in the socks for quick wash. Rinse it off in bucket with RODI water, hang dry.

Throw mine in washer, heavy duty cycle with 2nd rinse. Spin dry, done.

I would think it wouldn't be as safe since there could have a posibility of laundry detergent residue in the barrel of the washer.

I rinse them out in the sink and then soak them in a water/bleach mixture for a couple of days. After that, I rinse again and soak in fresh water with some Sodium Thiosulfate to take care of any remaining bleach. Finally, I let them air dry to be used again.

A couple points on washing socks:

What kind of socks you have....mesh or felt.
What kind of washing machine.....aggitator or front loader.
Do the socks have hard plastic rings.

I've found that the felt socks are more difficult to wash by hand and the hard plastic ring breaks in aggitator washing machines. I have 7" mesh socks with the a plastic ring and an aggitator washing machine and this is the result for the first and only time I machine washed them:

I now run them under tap water while rubbing fabric to fabric back and forth. They air dry and are surprisingly very clean looking. About once a year I'll soak them in a little bleach and rinse with tap water and let dry. No RO/DI rinsing for me.

I run 7" mesh socks (with hard plastic ring) with a agitator-less top loading washer.

I rinse all of my socks out (in the sink or outside depending on the weather) to get all of the big gunk out of them, then they go into the washer with bleach only. Heavy duty cycle, presoak and extra rinse. Then when they come out, I hang them up to dry for about three days before using them again. Once Im done washing, I run a cleaning cycle on my washing machine, just so I can make sure all of the fish goo is out of the appliance before my kids clothes go in there. :)

I bring mine to the laundromat. They have heavy duty front-load washers. Throw them all in and wash with cold water and 1 cup of bleach. Go to the nearby bar for a drink or two then come back and pick them up :) I throw them into a bucket and let them dry for a day before use.

I throw them in the garbage and learn to run my tank without them.

Lol good one risin. They seem usfull since they become dirty after couple week or less , they must be cleaning stuff out of my tank. Mine have plastic rings and rinsing it in the laundry would probably leave detergent residue on it, that's what I would think. I just wash them with my hose with a jet nosel.

Pressure washer, let them sit in bleach 24hrs and then rinse in RODI. I have a stock of 5 so i usually do this once a month.
