How to clean sump?

I have only a protein skimmer in my sump the middle section has some blocks and ceramic balls in it. I have a lot of detritus building up on the floor of the sump do I just siphon it out or can I add some sort of invertebrates to sort it out?

u can try siphoning but since its on the floor, may be easier to use a shop vac. To prevent detritus buildup, u can add a small powerhead aimed at the sump floor where detritus is settling.
