What is this hair like algae? Very short small bushes.

Recommendation on getting rid of it? I have a tuxedo urchin. Unfortunately my valentini has been killing my clean up crew, considering getting rid of him.

Thoughts?

Its green hair algae. I would place rock in a container of tank water and pull off as much as you can by hand and scrub the rest with a firm toothbrush and some 3% hydrogen peroxide.
Return to tank, reduce white light intensity and number of hours of white lighting and add some snails such as :
Astrea
cerith
turbo grazer
trochus

A Pencil urchin

8-10 Caribbean blue leg hermits

Are you using RODI water or tap water from the faucet ?
What is your phosphate level?
Is tank at or near a window?

My levels are very very stable. I need to get exact numbers. I think it's over feeding. I have 1 hour of white light currently. I really feel like my valentini killing off my clean up crew is the main reason. Any input?

Your parameters seem fine. Just add more herbivores (algae eaters).

Try adding urchins. If you are getting the small tuxedos, you can keep more than 1. If you’re going to get the pincushion, stick with one because they eat algae ferociously.

Wow I didn’t know a machine like this existed.

anyways, often times, nitrates and phosphates might show as 0 even when there are a lot of nuisance algae because the algae are the ones consuming it.

that being said, what do you have for nutrient export?

refugium, algae scrubber, etc?

That test is not very accurate. The phosphate has a resolution of +/- 0.1ppm.

Yea I was curious and started reading up on it and it seems very meh. Especially for saltwater. Apparently it’s quite good for fw and ponds
