What can I use to connect 1” soft tubing to my sump?

Is there a type of fitting I can glue on that I can get at a hardware store?

Or do I even need to connect it? Can it just sit in the area

That drilling is made for a 1" bulkhead. The cleanest option is a 1" bulkhead with a threaded connection and a 1" male barb (either straight or 90 degree) to accept the tubing. You can also add a pipe extension below the bulkhead to minimize the splash. Bulkheads are generally available on-line like BRS and some LFS's will carry them. The barbs are sometimes available at hardware stores or can be ordered on-line.

You can just simply insert the vinyl tubing into the opening down into the sock if you prefer, but you will get some additional salt creep.

Thank you so much!
