How to convert the anionic DI resin ionic form Cl- to OH- ?

Hello all

I was reading the Purolite anionic resin data-sheet I noticed that there are two types :

- A400 shipped ionic form Cl-
- A400OH shipped ionic form OH-

Is it know that for our demineralization propose the anionic resin must be in OH- form.

Here in Brazil I can only find the A400 (Cl- form). Is there a way to chemically treat it to get the OH- form ready to use ? How to do it ?

Besides the anionic do I also have to chemically treat the cationic resin A100 before use ?

I think all resins sold in the US are ready to use in our RO/DI system

I do not think you can do this (change CL to OH-) - I'm not sure you're talking about the same thing though - you can't use a Cl- resin in saltwater. BUT - you can use a Cl- resin Or an OH- resin in freshwater (i.e. RODI) - But its really kind of unclear what you're asking
 
Second - there is no rule that you use purolite resin? Lastly - why would you need to treat the A100 resin?
 
Wash it with sodium hydroxide, just like one would do to recharge an anion resin:


I do not think A100 is suitable for a DI at all, regardless of the form.

So before I use the anionic resin I must wash it with NaOH to convert from the original ionic form Cl- to OH- ?
Why some vendors sells the anionic resin in OH- form (like BRS) and not in Cl- ?


I have another doubt but now regarding the cationic resin.


Purolite C-100

- Strong Acid Cation

- PRINCIPAL APPLICATIONS:

Softening - Industrial ;
Industrial demineralization when regenerated with acids

- Ionic Form Na+ form

Do I also have to "activate" the cationic resin with acid before use it ?

To make DI water, one must always use the OH- form.

The C100 also is the same: must convert it to the H+ form for deionization.

Otherwise your product will have a lot of NaCl in it, and more importantly, you cannot easily tell when it is depleted using TDS.

The Cl part makes sense! Never thought about it though - thanks for the information!
