welcome! In about an hour’s read there you will be able to cycle, not have algae problems, keep healthy fish, and know when to buy bottled bacteria and when not to.

the method there is one where retail purchases and tedious water testing are minimized, aquariums in that thread have a specific end of cycle date (when you can start reefing) before the tank is even set up. It’s based on the kind of rock you choose to start out with, we already know # days it takes to complete your cycle. Cycling science is always a long read from any source. testing for nitrite and nitrate is a huge waste of time so they‘re omitted, we show.

Have fun it‘ll work well and save you from buying at least forty bucks of unneeded cycling supplies. Secondarily, the thread will also show you how to skip the uglies phase and never permit a wrecked reef aquarium, new or old. Cycling an aquarium has nothing to do with wrecking it with algae, cycling is for establishing filter bacteria that cannot be killed or removed by water changes / cleaning.
