Hi everyone,
- I bought a picasso trigger about 6 weeks ago. He came from a tank where velvet was present. So, i dosed cupramine slowly and accordingly.
- Two weeks later however, my copper level dropped. I topped off cupramine but i think, it went up to about 0.6. Upon topping, it stopped eating but was still swimming well. So, i just waited 24 hours. The next day, it still refused to eat but still swimming around.
- Here, i did a 10% water change. The water was aged for about 72 hours but the bucket was covered with a lit. Immediately after doing the water change, things went south. The trigger turn upside down, unable to stay upright, floating about and started to lay on its side. It also wedge himself near the filter intake, attempted jumping couple times for the next week.
- I guess the anti chlorine didnt evaporate and made the copper toxic. In hindsight, i should have immediately removed it and put it in copper free water. I was thinking it was a swim bladder issue since it was not breathing heavy when it happen. But regretfully, i was instead doing 10% water changes every 36 hours.
- About a week later, its condition improved. It could remain upright, but still very lethargic. Slowly, it swam around the surface and occasionally returned to its behaviour of pecking at the water surface. It did start to eat couple of pellets a day but not when fed (those fell on the bottom). Copper was about 0.35 ish
- I continued doing water changes, hoping it would improve. This past week when i was doing water changes, it started to approach the siphon tube and slowly hitting it. I guess this were all positive signs its recovering. However, as the water changes were made, it stopped its pecking behaviour and probably stopped eating as well..It is still swimming around and comes to greet you when you approach the aquarium. It hovers around the surface looking at the food but doesnt eat.
- Copper reach 0 yesterday.
- Throughout the period i started adding copper till now, it occassionally liked to go near the filter intake. I would think this is copper related since it was still doing this when it was in theraupetic levels of copper for almost two weeks.
- Will my trigger resume eating or is it a lost cause?
- Does anyone have any experience with cupramine poisoning?
