I'm so used to having a freshwater tank where I just add a food block but now I have a salt and things are different.

So, What's the best way feed while on vacation?

I have 2clowns, royal gramma, blenny and a cardinal. Plus anemone, Xenias & Leathers.

I feed 3xs a day with pellet shrimp food. I also have seaweed and a clip.

I'm thinking I need an automatic feeder? Plus seaweed, I know leaving the seaweed in the tank will make the nitrates rise so I'm not sure.

I use Eheim Everyday Fish Feeders when I go on vacation....and use a flake food that I believe contains the vegie component. I also use feeding rings (DIY out of tubing) since my fish are not surface feeders....they like slow sinkers.

How long are you going to be gone? Your fish will be perfectly fine without feeding for a couple of days. We have someone that comes by to let the dogs out. I have them look for anything obviously wrong on the tank. If I'm going to be gone more than 3 or 4 days I will have them drop some food in every couple of days. I used to have them feed everyday, but I always came back to high nitrates due to over feeding.

Just a couple days. I was jus reading about how the fish can go without eating for a couple of days.

I have an ehiem everyday feeder. that drops pellets in the tank twice a day, every day. This is more than sufficient for my fish while Im gone, then when Im home, every other morning I thaw some rods food, and throw taht in. the days that rods is not fed, I put a half sheet of algae in.

My nitrates are never above 10. I worry more about my ATO system than i do about getting food in the tank. The ATO resevior in my system is 8 gallons, and good for 3 or 4 days

Was just out of town. Left on a Thursday (( before the lights were on, so I didn't feed the fish )), and didn't return until Sunday evening (( fed them at that point )), and they were just fine.
The longer your tank has been set up the better, more in tank life to be eaten.

yep based on a few days gone dont feed imo, easy fix. thats less nutrients in the tank while nobody is there to monitor, its safest not to for this duration imo.

Do you have a sump and/or an ATO?

I would be more concerned about evaporation than I would be about feeding.

Yeah, that's what I'm going to do.
