I'm going on vacation next week for a week, and I'm wondering how should I feed my fish if I cant get someone to visit and feed them for me. I have a small snowflake eel and a baby clown triggerfish.

Also, the clow triggerfish is very small and has gotten sucked up the filter, so I only run the filter when I'm at home. Would it be okay if I left the filter off for a week? Is there something I could put over the filter so the fish wont get sucked up? I have live sand, no live rock, and no invertibrites.

Welcome to R2R!

1. You could buy an automatic fish feeder online or from a local fish store or pet supply chain store.

2. Have someone feed for you.

How many days exactly will you be gone?

Wow, that clown trigger must be REALLY small... I had a juvie for the past year, but even he was an inch when we got him so not quite small enough to get sucked into a filter intake...

There are automatic feeders you can get pretty cheap and you could use pellets with these, but that's not my main concern here...

Anyway, what kind of filter is it? How long has the tank been established? You were able to cycle it without any live rock at all? I'm concerned that if you turn off the filter while you're gone but have NO biological filtration, you may get an ammonia spike, especially since you'll need to feed heavily with those carnivores so you'll probably have a lot of leftover pellets on the sandbed
