I have a nice frag of purple Duncans that has grown from 2 polyps to 6 in about 60 days. I'd like to frag it but not sure where to start.

Any input is appreciated!!!

I have heard it is beat to use a Dremille tool wit ha cut off wheel. Don't want to use shears it would cruch the skeloton?
Just what I have heard other!

Thanks everyone! I'll have to pick up a cutting wheel, i just have those cutting wheels that are like hard flattened sandpaper, i think it would tear up the flesh to much.

Definitely use the nice diamond wheels. Cut as close to the main trunk as you can w/out cutting into it. If you are lucky a new head will grow right back in its place.

Shears will crush the skeleton but that doesn't mean they will kill it.

Well here it is. I plan to cut that polyp on the left off. Should i just cut straight down between the 3 polyps, or cut at an angle and leave a small stump where that left polyp is?

A local fish store near me uses shears to cut them..seem to work like branchin hammers/ frogspawn.

The pic doesn't show up but I would say cut to leave a very small stump if possible. That stump will become a new polyp.

Keep em in good flow after cutting and beware!! they are so slimey after cutting they can be difficult to glue.

Sorry heres the pic

I'm cutting tomorrow! I was gonna dremel off that polyp on the left, now i might go for one of the more mature ones on the right just to be safe.

personally i would wait a bit longer to allow those polyps to mature more

Are you going to cut them in half? making one frag with an adult and the babies and another with a single adult?

Don't cut the little one!!

Unless I am mistaken I think you will find there isn't enough skeleton to cut from the main colony yet. You would be better off cutting a larger one off.

Good luck.

I planned on cutting one polyp off, one of the adults on the right side of the frag in the picture, leaving the new polyp on the left and one of the other adult polyps. I can get right between those 2 adult polyps with ease.

I think these are mature enough to frag as i just got in 4 more colors of duncans and all of them have smaller polyps that these. And after seeing how Tyrone chops these things up, i really think its hard to go wrong.

Thanks for all the info and advice guys. I'll let you know how the fragging goes.
