Hey family
I need to Frag this monster sinularia as it’s growing sideways and covering my zoas. I want to cut the leaning chunk off and glue it to the rock next to it as a separate piece.

I am a noob at fragging anything so wanted some advice on the do’s and dont’s for this.
Is it as simple as taking a blade and slicing it off and then using coral glue to glue it to the new rock?

hi,slice clean, some use string, rubber bands to attach to rock,i prefer needle and thread,go through stalk 2x ;).. glue and softies don't work that well, show us pics when done:)

Okay what would you recommend using to slice it with - a sharp knife is okay? Should I dip it afterwards?
Alrighty rubber band onto rock until it attaches

Scissors is the tool of choice. Never fragged a Sinularia, but with Lobophytum, I would chop whole little fingers off. Dip them in iodine to prevent infection. I used loosely wrapped string because I was afraid the rubber band would cut them in half, but boy, was it annoying trying to tie with wet fingers, so probably go for rubber bands.

Here's a video of the technique. This is Nephthya, but should apply to Sinularia also:

Awesome thanks this video was helpful! I just hate seeing such a healthy large colony getting the chop but it’s for the best and plus I’ll still get to keep it

Using a plastic toothpick (as it will remove easier than wood) prick it through the base of the sinulara. Then place a rubber band over the end of the tooth pick with little bit of pressure on your rock as you dont want to squish it.
Once it attaches to the rock, spin the toothpick loose, remove rubber bands and and slide the toothpick out from the sinulara.

Awesome thanks for the tip!

Scissors to cut then push a wood toothpick through it and rubber band it to a frag plug or rubble.
This works, I used a wooden toothpick. I just glued the toothpick to the plug rather than use the rubberband. Most took, only a couple came off. Scissors are best.

So bit the bullet today and decided it was finally time to Frag this! It was already basically in two large pieces so I just ripped this one from the rock and cut it where it joined the other and put it on another piece of rock - how does this look to everyone?

The rubber band is quite “elasticy” and it’s loose-ish. It’s sulking a bit at the moment but hopefully in a day or so it should rebound. Didn’t remove it from the tank just did it where it was to hopefully not stress it too much. Fingers crossed it attaches and thrives again!

Ended up doing the toothpick trick as the band was too tight. How long does it usually take for them to perk up

hi usually a few days,be sure to run carbon for a few days:)

The one toothpick wasn’t enough and it was looking sad this morning so ended up putting in a second and using some coral glue on the base. Seems to have responded much better now! So happy with it and once it all comes out fully it will have so much more room to grow.
