Hi, it looks like my fish have ich. I want to try a freshwater dip but I’m confused when people say the PH should match the main tank? How do you do that? Also someone said you have to aerate the freshwater bucket? Any help would he appreciated! I know this isn’t a cure but I don’t have a QT.. my tank is only 10g.

You are correct. A fresh water dip, or bath (they are different) will not cure ick. However, since you specifically asked how to do it or what it is - here is a good source from Mr. Fener. I would highly recommend using methylene blue as he describes. Every fish I introduce to my tank runs through either the 15 minute dip or 30 minute bath. As for specifically talking about ick and the proper way to mitigate and manage it I will leave for others. Since I have this bookmarked, and use it, I figured I'd post it.

Best of luck!

Okay, thank you for sharing.

Okay, thank you for sharing.

You are welcome. It works really well for flukes and other external parasites.

Regarding ICK - I'm not sure of your tank and fish situation but this is a bigger issue to be honest. You may get some other information on how to manage it as I noted above. Or at least I hope you do. Unfortunately I think it may not be what you want to hear or looking for. In any case hope the information provides some value.

Methylene blue is a great product and as you read through it - it should make sense. I will tell you the first time I was more of a nervous wreck than the fish getting the bath but it worked out well. Just be careful with the stuff as it does stain and it is blue :)

Just a quick note since it just came to my mind. I've not used this so please keep this in mind but maybe others have. There is a product by blue life USA I believe called safety stop instance fish quarantine. Take a look at that as I think it includes a few other things plus the methylene blue.
