I was given this torch. This is my first one every. Any ideal a name. Do they multiply like hammers. Do everyone feed their torches. If you do what do you feed them. Why you are at it let me see your torches. I think they are pretty cool.

The lights cut off so that's whys she is small. She was long earlier.

Low light, low flow, and they reproduce by splitting off and budding new heads :) you can feed them however they do not require it.

I have had nothing but bad luck with torches, hammers, frogspawn etc....I’m curious to see what advice people can give....I here they like higher nutrient levels....but some people say high flow some say low flow....

What else do you have in your tank? I have a few lps (hammer, torch, pearl bubble, plate, duncan) that I ingore and they grow like weeds.

I have 3 fish I over feed and corals I feed frozen or freeze-dried plankton, a lot. My fastest growing lps live in medium-strong current where the fish & coral foods get randomly swept into their mouths. The tank is illuminated with strong mh light, I'm not certain the par but these corals don't spread out and sting nearby corals because they are basking in light and not stretching out for any extra.

Where do you get people to give you such beautiful torches? That's a nice looking piece. You can send me a frag in a year when you have some extra heads! :)

High nutrients, medium flow, high light- what I have found to contribute to successful LPS growth

No. I run a large Fuge and an external algae reactor to keep algae out of the DT- I run lights in both for 24 hrs a day

Yea that definitely sounds like a recipe for success....Harvest that algae in a different location with heavy lighting....Smart

Move the torch slowly, euphylia adjust to light faster than flow ime. It will tell you quite quickly if it’s unhappy.

Yeah- it works really well. I use a gyre xf250 10" away from my big elegance at 10" flow and my lights, LEDs, are 8" above it

I’ve found mine liked medium light and medium flow the best. There should be enough flow to randomly be moving the polyps around a little faster than what I consider swaying, but too much flow and the torch will not fully extend.
Unfortunately I just lost my gold torch colony to brown jelly after almost a year of having it. Nothing else was affected fortunately, but still sucked to lose it.

Bringing this thread back to life...

I have no problems keeping torch / hammers / etc, but I can never get them to grow. I don't keep an ULN system (nitrates 5-10, Phos .03-.1, Alk 7.5-8, calc 400-450). I run two XR15's in AB+ mode, have to gyre's on async and an AI Nero. I have the gyre's set to run 45min on, 45min off and the Nero is on its own setup.

Lighting is 8 bulb t5. 2 blues on at 9am. All bulbs on at 11am till 5pm then 2 blues till 9pm.
Alk 8.0
cal 400
mag 1340
po4 .006
nitrates. I don't know need a new test kit.
