Hi guys, Im hoping someone here can help me out. I got tired of replacing T5 bulbs so I bought a super nice programmable LED fixture for my tank. The problem is that the only way to hang it above the aquarium is to hang it by cables. The wifey said no way in hell will it be hung from the ceiling. I have seen other LED setups that have a scaffolding type setup that sits over the tank and the fixture hangs from that but I cant seem to find a generic one to hang my fixture from. The thing is high quality and is programmable to any lighting pattern I want but it is a custom setup that the guy had produced to use and sell in his store so I need to figure out some way to hang it above the tank by the cables using some sort of scaffolding type setup. Any ideas?

You can do it a couple of ways: Lowes or Home Depot sells shelving brackets that you can put into the studs of your wall and hang it that way, this is the way I did it and I'll submit my pic below, you can also put a shelf on top of the brackets if you like as well.
The other way is to use electrical conduit piping and make a frame from one end to the other and mount it on your tank stand or you can use 2 different pipes bent at a 90 degree that come up over from the back of the tank and again mount it to your tank stand. If you don't have a pipe bender you can either buy one or ask one of the guys at Lowes/Home Depot to do it for you and they will, just have measurements.
Both of those ways are cheap and also look good, The brackets come in many different colors and can be painted along with the electrical conduit piping.

Several ways to skin the cat here. I hung mine from the ceiling and think it looks SUPER slick. here is a photo of that. I used a cable holder on the wall to hide my cords. as for the wires, I used the lightest cable they had at Home Depot. I found the studs in the attic and then screwed the hooks thru the cieling into them. I could swing from the mount but it is quite thin and works great. I love the floating light.

the little light here was a temporary one as I was doing maintenance on the big light.

on another setup I bent some aluminum flat stock and then attached it to the back of the stand. it went up and the fixture hung from it. Personally, I love the thin cables from the ceiling.
