Hi guys I was wondering how I could help my blue hippo tang grow food wise, my tank is foot long and is 125 gallon has alot of swimming room and tank mates are clownfish, melanuras wrasse, porcupine pufferfish, snowflake eel.

I feed mine a mix of NLS and TDO pellets, flake, nori, and LRS frozen. They are active so I feed multiple times per day.

Dwest gives good advise. My 2 cents is to feed a varied diet of quality pellets, flakes and frozen. I think Hikari Seaweed Extreme pellets are excellent for herbivores like tangs. Get the small size and switch to medium as your tang gets 4 inches or larger. I use NLS pellets in my auto feeder as that is a very good all around pellet and sinks slowly. I make my own recipe of frozen food along with PE Mysis on occasion. Feed smaller amounts of food multiple times per day so your fish get more nutrition and less turns into tank waste.

Every fish has their own growth rate and size potential. Having many tangs, a variety high in fats and amega 3 offers best nutrition to enhance growth. This hepatus went from 3: to 5 inches in under 5 months

They grow fast… I wouldn’t do anything special. Mine was tiny from Liveaquaria. It hid most of the time when it was small. Fast forward a year later, it is as big as the other tank mates and swims out in the open.

We just lost our 13 year old hippo. She was for many years the peacekeeper and a tough old girl.
