How to humanely kill fish?

How do I humanely kill a fish that is going to die? I don't want it to continue suffering and it is clear that it will not make a recovery at this point. He's upside down in a qt tank, can't swim and looks to have major internal damage.

I would freeze it

How long has it been in QT?
Have you tested ammonia. When was last water change. What is salinity?

What medication was it getting?


You would be surprised what things fish can bounce back.

I put it out of it's misery. Was barely moving towards the end and was having trouble breathing. Wasn't humane to keep him alive.

Like @mfinn said above, clove oil. I would not freeze it.

freezing it would cause it to be in more pain before it dies, if you need to do something like that cut the nerve right behinds its head to kill it. it won't feel any pain.
