How to keep Acan Color ?

I had one go from red and blue to gold and blue. To be honest liked how changed to gold and blue better. My purple and green got even bolder colors.

So what I’m hearing is make a few these the coral at the base of my rock and I may get some wild colorations in the shade.

My setup is using some AI SOLs where the white lights are setup with less than 30% intensity. They have not changed colors so much, but just look muted or faded. I do like em a lot. One of my favorite corals in the tank.

I think this might be interesting to some reefers.
This polyps of my acan lord have different colors on the same colony. And it is reversible. Every time the polyps on the side, close to my front and side glass, get more vibrant colored polyps after several months.
So i guess lower flow or lower light intensity increases fluorescense.
(There are some yellow colors in the center of the green polyps that got lost during photo shooting)

This Acan is sitting at around 100-120 PAR and has kept its color after 6 months. I've noticed that if I stop feeding it PE Mysys Shrimp (the only kind I buy) it begins to loose its deep red and turn more of a pastel. I've also noticed this with my nephew's Acans and Blastos. I also t

ried regular Mysys shrimp and didn't get the same results.

There is something to PE Mysys shrimp that make LPS explode with color and growth. Spot feed them regularly and you'll see results. Specially in the colors.

ACAN COLONY MORPHED!

Owned for about 2-3 years now and recently has had an explosion of growth and morph in color!

Colors I see: Orange, Red, yellow, green, white stripes.

When I first brought it home the green would only show in the mouth however, this is the update:
- Couple heads have Green on the outer rim
- Couple heads have green on both outer rim and the mouth
- Some heads have no green at all yet retain the orange red yellow and white stripes.
Another example.

When I first purchased this lovely piece, the 4 heads have orange, red, white stripes, and green in the mouth area. However as it grew, the babies started with green mouths but they would disappear as they get larger. My first go to was par (50). Next was potentially nutrients (Fed 3 times a week, nitrate 20-30 with phosphate 0.4-0.7) I then changed it to 100 par with heavy blues in hopes to bring it back. Will keep everyone updated. If you can provide some feedback, THANK YOU

Excuse the pictures, they just finished eating lunch!

This is all very cool. I bought a gold acan a few months back in November and it has sat in my tank at about 150-170 par as tested just a few minutes ago in fact. I notice it has recently shown a new teal color. First pic is when I got it. Second pic is now

Wow crazy how these color morph, I have some that have gone almost all red, but my rainbow stayed pretty good the past 5 month

Interesting thread! Acans are still one of my Nemesis where they change to red and orange no matter what I do.. I have some under metal halides and some under radions and some straight tucked away in the dark and it’s the same thing.. red and orange lol.. I do not feed them personally thou just broadcast feed the tank. Maybe I shall try that with mysis and see..
