Many ppl are having hard time to keep a naso tang.
Here is my tips. Apply for several tangs
- Dont pick anything lesser than 3 inches. Unless you dont QT them and have a perfect environment for new fish.
- Pick 4 inches + is the best size to train and keep a Naso
- Of course, golden rule is pick the eating one at local fish store.
- Get the one from your local reefer who has it on their tank for good amount of time :D
Again this apply for several type of tangs not all tangs.

At many LFS or distributors, that’s near impossible. Most LFS may have 1-3 on hand. There is more to it than eating.
I have a 660g and added a 2 3/4” blonde that was somewhat thin. It showed interest in food. It’s all about then- diet and overall tank health. They can have internal parasites why many stop eating as well as poor tank conditions, immature tank and stress such as intimidation, parasite and such.
At LFS, not all parasites are visible until it reaches 2nd stage.
Other factors are:
Interaction with other tank mates
Breathing
Reaction to movement
Vertical swimming behavior
Darting suddenly
Swimming in path of water flow

Agree. I just think that reefers have a better chance if they pick up one which has been in some else tank. :D
If I there is an option to select like same naso , same size one from LFS and 1 from local reefer. I will jump to local reefer :D.
