How to keep up with phosphate consumption

in case it’s not been said…
Until you rid of the tank of algae you won’t get an accurate phos reading

depending on how severe it is it might be worth tackling with a miracle potion to help reset the tank. Also worth stopping dosing phos as it will only be making the algae situation worse.

You mean the phosphate is bound in algae and I get that. Until something eats the algae, or until it dies on its own though, the phosphates will never get released back in the water, where the corals can use them.. The reading of the water is what corals can take, no matter how much is bound in algae... As I said earlier if I don't dose corals die. They get skinnier and skinnier. I have had a platygyra slowly receding for the past 4 months after I started dosing it stopped. It is a double edge sword. My snails bred a few weeks ago, hope this will help somehow.

People often say that but I don’t think it makes sense. Algae is just one of many consumers of P in a reef tank, and in that sense it is no different than other organisms.

What do I do with the algae then? Do I hope that it goes away on its own?

Feeding corals and avoiding dino’s can risk algae.
The general answer is to control algae in ways other than starving it, such as herbivores.
