so my 220g tank has ich and I want to leave it fallow for the 76 days. I was able to get all of my tangs and other large fish out. I cannot get the last two chromis out. I have tried everything. My latest plan is to kill them. Is there something I can soak Their food in that will kill them but not harm my coral? Thanks

Have you tried a fish trap , should work to catch them without killing them or other inhabitants in your tank

Before you kill them, take a fish hook and file down the barb. Then fish for them, you will catch them when hungry.

Normally I would not recommend this, but it's an option instead of killing them.
Yea go "fishing" in your tank.

Thanks I have tried a few types of traps with no luck. I will try a hook I haven’t don’t that yet.

I haven’t feed them in almost 2 weeks so they should be hungry.

The owners of Reef2Reef adhere to certain standards of ethical fish keeping. We believe that freshwater and saltwater aquarists are directly responsible for the health and well being of any aquatic animals in their care, be they fish or invertebrate. These responsibilities include providing a healthy aquatic environment, humane treatment, humane euthanasia (when required), as well as obtaining and disposing of aquatic animals in such a way that does not damage sensitive local ecosystems. Posts advocating the illegal collection of fish or invertebrates, inhumane treatment, flushing live animals down the toilet, or releasing them into the wild will be removed.

I agree with the above. Killing fish is unnecessary. I’ve had to take apart many reef to remove my fish. I’ve also used small hooks and food, and fish traps. Fish traps with trap doors are great. Turkey baster some food in the trap when you feed to get them used to going inside. Simply close the door when they’re feeding. This may take a week or so.

2 words- micro hook

It will take less than 5 minutes with a hungry fish.

It’s not like I haven’t tried ethical options so far and I will not be breaking down my aquarium to remove two little fish. I’ll try the hook and go from there.

That's part of knowing what your adding to your reef tank. We've broken down and took apart many tanks with lots of rock work to remove fish. It's our responsibility to think ahead in situations like these, killing a couple fish no matter how small is not responsible IMO.

I tried so hard to be good, but just can't. It's just little fish. :(

Don't expect many folks in a forum like this to sympathize.

I totally agree Tahoe61. Would one kill a $600 wrasse because they couldn't catch it? No difference (except cost) between a $600 or $5 livestock member, just because a fish might be inexpensive doesn't make it disposable.

I’m not looking for anyone’s opinion on ethics that not what I asked for a frankly I don’t care. I simply asked a question and some people provided me with reasonable responses on how to remove the fish.

It's often the folks who aren't looking for them that need them the most :D

Sorry but if you don't care about your livestock then maybe don't post in forum where we actually care and are responsible fish keepers.

Fine, let me provide a reasonable response instead of an opinion.

* Remove all LR from existing tank and store in saltwater until you catch the fish as many have done before you including me. Have a great day.
