How to mount photosynthetic gorgonia

I traded some coral with a friend today and he gave me a branch of photosynthetic gorgonia. He told me to use some reef putty to mount it, unfortunately he didn’t have any and neither do I. Is there another way to mount it?

I tried to post this in general discussion, but it wouldn’t let me, so I went with the soft coral section

Do you have some superglue gel and a tad bit of sand?

Is this going onto a plug or directly onto rock?

I use super glue gel and sand for both, but let me know how you are going to mount and will explain how I do it.

I grow and frag gorgs, so use those items, as cheaper and works great.

It’s best to stip the outer flesh to the stick like core. Looks like ur stripping an electrical wire and u can glue that into a frag plug or a rock that has a hole

Ok.

Strip away about 3/8” of the base. If you have finger nails, makes it easy. You do not have to do this, but it will hold a lot better. If hole in rock will accommodate flesh, don’t strip it.

Once you decide on the above, place a glob of super glue gel on the base. Dip in water to solidify the outside a tad. It makes it like putty. Add a bit more super glue gel to that and then place gorg in hole. Once it is in hole, position it to where you want it and make sure it gets plenty of flow. Trust me, gorgs love flow.

Once it is where you want it, grab some sand and push it into/around the hole. Then reposition gorg, as it will have moved.

enjoy gorg, as sand and glue will fully cure in about an hour.

here are quite a few frags I did and you can see how I did them for frag plugs and one for a rock. For frag plugs, I glue and then dove under the sand and pack it around the glue ball. For the rock, the sand blends right in, as I didn’t use black for that one.
