how to move fish from a tank with dinos!?

Need help... My 72g tank has had dinos from vinegar dosing and I plan to restart in a new tank (never carbon dosing again!) and I was wondering how i can move my fish over without moving the dinos over to the new tank!? Any help would be appreciated!

First of all, I'm not sure the carbon dosing caused the dino infestation. However, I think you will need to build or buy a trap and remove each fish that way.

Why don't you try a blackout period before tearing down the entire tank?

Carbon dosing was the culprit unfortunately I went to fast. Its one of the warnings of carbon dosing. After I slowly stopped dosing and got my nitrates and phosphates back up above 5ppm and 0.03ppm They started receding but now every time I do a water change they do show a little which isnt a big deal... but I was planning on getting rid of this tank anyway and moving them all into my 180g when it is finished. Iv tried everything possible to get rid of the dinos each thing helped a little but they seem to always come back!

Iv tried a 3 day black out, cut back water changes, heavy skimming, H2O2 to kill the dinos... nothing really worked they always came back.

That stinks. Sorry to hear that. Just curious, but did you find that the peroxide had any effect on the dinos?

If i rid the tank of dinos im still going to take the tank down... i dont think its really worth trying to rid the tank of dinos. was just wondering if anyone knows of anyway not to spread it

Are you going to reuse any of the substrate from the existing tank? I would be concerned about transferring them to the new setup as well.

No I just want the fish. Don't care about the rock or sand.

In that case, just start removing substrate. They will run out of hiding places at some point, and you should then be able to net them!

haha i know how to catch the fish just worried about dinos being spread into the new tank by the fish?? wasnt sure if thats possible

I would have 2 or 3 buckets with water from the new tank and transfer the fish from one bucket to the next before going in the new tank.. That should decrease the chances of transferring any water from the old tank. The more buckets the less the odds but the more stress on the fish.

Yeah I was thinking about a setup like that. So it is only the water I have to worry about? Because if so i could have a 30g brute trash can setup to acclimate them to my tanks water then net them from the trash can and poor a couple of cups of water on them with water straight from the tank? That might help clean them off. I was just worried if they carried dinos in their slimecoat

Don't know if the fish themselves could carry it but I don't think there's much you could do about it if they did. I suspect the greatest risk is from water transfer but have never read anything to say whether it's transmissible by the fish's slime coat.

Ok thank you! I guess I'll just try and keep all that tank water out the best I can and see what happens. Appreciate all your help!!
