How to move tanks long distance?

I moved a 120 litre FW tank back in ‘94. I initially flew up with a new temporary tank, set it up in a friend’s house and let it cycle. A couple of weeks later I flew back up with the fish in foam boxes and introduced them to their new temporary home. A month later we did our big move, I setup the permanent tank in our new place and cycled it. A week later I transferred the fish from the temporary tank in my friend’s place to their new permanent home and broke down the temporary tank.
This isn’t as big as yours of course and was FW, but this worked for me at the time.

I’m super excited I’m just nervous that this tank is going to be the reason why I wouldn’t move. I love the mountains and nature. Went from living in Michigan to Florida back to Michigan with no issue because I didn’t have a tank but not sure if or how I’ll be able to pull this one off.

I have 18 fish currently. Might be a little more or less haven’t counted in a while. I also have at least 20-25 corals have never counted so could be way off. I feel like it would be pretty hard to fly with that much stuff

Yes I did. Packed them as baggage and took them to my friend’s house in a hire car.
Edit. Just to clarify I did not take them on as hand carry - we cannot do that in Australia, so they went as checked baggage in their foam boxes. If I had too much to check as baggage I would have sent them as freight on the same flight and collected them at the destination - in case you are interested this was a Melbourne to Sydney move.

I moved the livestock from my 220 to a new 450 only 9 miles away. I was able to have both running for 1 month or so before transferring and still lost most of my large SPS colonies. I think they didn't adapt to the new flow patterns and new lights. The ones that i didn't loose out right had major tissue loss. In retrospect I wish i had just fragged everything and transferred frags. Even though I used most of my water and all my live rock I still had a 'cycle' not a nitogen cycle but a algae cycle. I went through the new tank uglies. I think re setting up with just frags would have made it easier for the corals to adapt to the new system.

Thats the one thing that I'm scared of I dont want anything to die. I also don't really know if I'm able to buy a house and leave my current tank back home or leave the tank cycling for a month. Seems like a long time to just leave a house staying there paying for bills if im not even using it.

Being a military dude I’ve moved a few times. I don’t do fish... cause they poop... which causes trouble. Since I know I’ll be moving every few years I keep a small tank, only a 40 gallon display. I make friends with the local fish store and have them stored my coral. I am move set up my tank, they could ship them to me or if it’s only a days drive I come back and load everything up in coolers with water, and just do a cannonball run if you will back home. It’s really no different then putting your coral in a box and flying it from Fiji to the United States. This swashing around provides water movement and you don’t really need lights for that short of a trip.
