I had pretty cloudy water for the longest time. 55 bucks on Amazon cleared me up. Little green killing machine UV! Hard to believe waters in the tank sometimes!

I think. think. It's your Magnesium actually. I think It would be fine if your Alk and Calc were lower but because they're so much higher it's making the water cloudy like that.

Go dose to get it up about 200PPM.

Or just get a proper salt mix. not sure why your Magnesium is so low.

Could also be a bacterial bloom? But I think the Low MAg isn't helping.

After seeing that pic this looks like one of your startup blooms. I would ride it out. My only recommendations still are to keep up with carbon, regular water changes and check out inTanks media baskets + filter floss.

I agree. You can try to dose microbacter7 or just wait it out. But don't do a bunch of changes all at once or you'll never know what the real cause is/was. And you could exacerbate other trends that are detrimental. If you're considering going with ozone or dosing peroxide, consider instead an oxydator. Super simple and very safe. Gives you clear water, no electricity required, and improves water quality. It works slowly which is what you want in a reef... no quick changes!

Please answer these:

1. Are you using Tap water OP? What's your water source?

2. Has your water been cloudy like this since forever? Or is this recent?

3. Does it stay cloudy every time you do a WC? Or does it get worse after?

In order of effectiveness for chemically yellow water:
Ozone, carbon, uv

In order of effectiveness for yellow caused by organisms:
Uv, ozone, carbon

Fluval just released a uvc for their canisters, not sure if it's able to hook up to your system though.

That is only 3 watts. It says good for 100 gallon tank, I don't think so. Maybe good for the 13.5, but you will need a pump or cannister filter for this. I just use a 25 watt submersible bulb in my sump next to return pump.

It operates with a canister, but I wasn't sure if the 13.5 used one or not. And it's obviously not the same as you would put in a sump.....but for those like me that don't run a sump and use a canister, this is a good option to have and I will be getting one for my fx4 as soon as I possibly can.

I run several Fluval cans for my 75 gallon fresh and would be a great addition but I think the bulb wattage would be too low. I have a 25 watt UV with built in pump for inside of tank when needed.

It's on my 75 gallon, I was running a 306 for a year or 2 before, but finally had the funds to upgrade and get the fx4...the fx6 wouldn't fit under my aquarium or I would have gotten that one instead.

But would the 3 watt UV be sufficient for your system?
