Here's an article I wrote for reefs.com on the best way I've found to paint aquarium backgrounds. Application video is at the end. I've put backgrounds on hundreds of aquariums and this is by far my favorite method; quick, easy and affordable :)
 
Thanks, Austin... would work wonders on that new Miracles you have coming ;)

Not sure I would do that to my first custom tank lol......Miracles is doing that coating on the back for me this time but maybe I will try it on my QT or frag tank when I get around to setting one up.
 
We need articles like that written for R2R! :)
 
Great read! When I painted the background on my frag tanks, I just bought some non toxic acrylic paint that you would use for painting a picture and rolled it on with a "weenie" roller. After two applications it ended up being perfect. I figured it wouldn't hurt to use some non-toxic paint.

Exactly how I did my 40B :) Was very easy and fast to do :)
 
I used one sided black vinyl that you can buy at any custom sign shop. Just apply like you would window tint in a car.
