How to place new coral

I'm just getting my Fluval 13.5 tank set up and bought a few zoanthid polyps yesterday. They are attached to a little five sided "rock". Do I need to attach this to my live rock with coral adhesive? Or can I just place it where I want it and eventually the coral will grow and attach to the rock?

Where you want. It should grow on near by rock.

I use some gel superglue and stick it where i want it. But I do set them wher I want for a few days to make sure they like the area before I glue them down. If u don’t glue them keep an eye out for clean up crew they will sometimes knock unglued pieces over.

Sometimes testing areas before gluing will help see if the coral likes it

Just a word of caution, ALWAYS wear eye protection when handling zoas. They can be deadly toxic. Tons of videos and articles on this.

Start them in the sandbed or floor of the tank to avoid light shocking them. They should start opening within a few hours and fully open by the next day or two. I give them about a week on the sandbed then will move to where I want them and see how they react over the next week before gluing down. Sometimes I have to put a small dab of glue to keep them in place since my urchin likes to rearrange my frags if they arent secured to something...

I usually glue mine down after testing out a spot for a week. If they open up and look happy, I'll glue them down because I like to blow the rocks with a turkey baster when I clean the tank. Also, snails, fish, etc. can move them around. I just use gel glue from the dollar store

As above, when receiving a new coral I always start it off on the sand bed and leave it for a few days to acclimate to your lighting and water conditions. You can then slowly move it up to its final place before fixing it to the rock.
