How to prevent and beat Cyanobacteria??

it slowly keeps coming back along with minor GHA. How do I prevent cyano?

I have enough flow. Parameters are as following:
Nitrate: 7ish
Phosphate: .04
Alk: 8.7
Cal: 390
Mag: 1350

I guess my gha came back super slow and very minor once most of my snails dyed.
Now how to I prevent cyano from coming back?

I’m having the same issue with Cyanobacteria keep coming back. I added more snails and hermit crabs, a cleaner shrimp and a pink spotted watchman goby so they clean up the sand bed but it still keep coming back. In addition I got two powerheads so plenty of flow but still cyano. I would recommended getting a rodi unit if you haven’t done so yet. Keep vacuuming up the cyano from the sand bed and rocks as much as you can every water change. In addition, clean up anything that can become a nitrate factory like any biomedia in your filter that haven’t been cleaned in a while or the skimmate cup from your protein skimmer. In addition, I just added phosguard for my filter to help maintain phosphates and silicates. Good luck!

You should definitely clean your sandbed if you see a lot of cyano as it will continue to grow from excess nutrients.

in my 10 gallon I find that regular water changes where I vacuum the sand bed has helped a ton. Getting fish/invrts that move and sift sand can also help.

In my opinion it’s the most cyano fixes in one thread. The whole thread is simply take apart reef, tap rinse the bed back to new cloudless perfection, clean the rocks in a bucket of fresh saltwater, reassemble without a recycle, and then take an after pic. 24 pages worth so no it won’t harm bac.

Yes, that would be a good place to start. Also don’t worry yourself to death over cyano. It’s an indicator that something isn’t quite right.

Would you mind posting a picture of the problem when you get the opportunity?

I had cyano for a while. I let it go but would blow it off rocks when it got messy. It would go away then come right back. First time I cleaned my sand bed it came back so every week I cleaned the sand and would blow it of the rocks. Everything cleaned up but my sand bed would always restart after cleaning Took about a month and a half of weekly sand bed cleaning before it stoped triggering cyano growth on sand.
