So is there a trick to prevent the sediment filter getting a yellowish tint to it? I'm guessing its algae or bacteria?

I never seem to see a drop in pressure and feel like I am wasting money prematurely changing the filter every 6-8mo, when I only produce maybe 300-400gal during that timeframe.

Is there a way to stop it at all?

It's just the stuff it filters out. Don't worry about what it looks like, only worry about it getting clogged and impeding the filtration.

+1. It sounds like the sediment filter is just filtering sediment :P
I don't know a great deal about RO/DI, but that's what it sounds like to me.

It's doing its job. They get that color from the junk in your tap water. It's a good thing. I replace them when they look too brown or my pressure drops too much.

Is it getting any light on it?. Like anything else a constant supply of nutrients and light will give you algae growth. Mine also tinges and discolors but that is showing its doing its job.

No sunlight, just whenever the light in the laundry room is left on?

Maybe I won't worry about it!
