How to price rocks with corals on them?

Hey all,

I currently upgraded tanks and wanted to take down my 20g and sell all of the rocks in it. It does have a few nicer corals on it (SCOP (Small), PC rainbow, some zoas, decent digi colony) but also quite a bit of aiptasia which is why I don't want to transfer them to the new tank. How should I price the entire lot of rock? Attached is a picture, all corals on the sand bed and racks will be moved and not included.

I have no idea how to price rocks. Comes down to how fast you want them gone and how excited people with the money are. Have you considered a few peppermint shrimp? They are fairly cheap and i have seen them get rid of aiptasia very quickly. They are always hungry. Not the coolest shrimp as they seem photonegative and give me a creepy impression. I have two in my 125 and I occasionally see aiptasia, but not for long.

I bought a lot of frags in the local neighborhood for 10-15 a frag. I have seen rocks go everywhere from free to 5 bucks a pound. I have even seen some folks list them and then say, 20 bucks for the whole lot. Unlikely to get retail for them. You will get less with aiptasia on them unless someone is breeding shrimp or has no idea what it is.

Thanks for the reply! It's good to know and I've been trying to get rid of the aiptasia but have had no luck. I'll probably pick up a peppermint shrimp to see if it helps to hopefully fetch a larger price tag on the rocks. They're filled with coral but the aiptasia just sucks....

You can use the peppermint shrimp to get rid of the aptasia but not all of the peppermint shrimp have the taste for aptasia. Ask your LFS if they use their peppermint shrimp for aptasia control and if you can see them eat some if they can provide a snack to the shrimp. You can also make a paste out of Kalwasser and RODI water and use a old testing syringe to put the paste on the aptasia. Turn off the flow and put the paste on the aptasia let it take it in, or sit on the aptasia for about 20 minutes. The pH in the kalkwaser paste will start to dissolve the unwanted aptasia.
