How to price SPS frags?

Yea I'm glad we all think the same when it comes to selling corals. I love my reef and always try to share pieces of my reef either for free or a sweet deal that another hobbyist can appreciate and hopefully carry on the same trend as im trying to and spread the love.

How do I correctly price sps frags? For example, Is it wrong to price a high end coral such as a 1" HW frag for $100? Or $200? $300? I get it if you're a business but as a local reefer, is it fair to me to sell way cheaper frags or sell higher base off the name of the coral to locals?

It's what u wanna sell it for . I give **** away all time . Just to help other reefer . Do u have hw would ya ship a peice ?

I remember when I was a kid getting into the hobby and didn't have much money. I remember what it feels like, I also know that without insane frag prices this hobby already prices a lot of people out. In my opinion selling frags I've grown out cheap is a way to get people started and keep the hobby a little more affordable. The problem arises that people will pay these insane prices for something they can get for cheap in a year, supply and demand.

As mentioned above, I trade frags for store credit, it covers my running costs, except electricity and allows me to buy new corals.
I have given loads of frags away over the years, share the wealth.

I donate frags to my club, trade with friends and club members. If I do charge, it's usually cheap. I try to save that money for a new pump or whatever I need at the time.
I don't ever buy frags for more than $50, I think I did that 1 time for something that my wife fell in love with.

I try to make back my initial investment on a frag so I can then in turn buy more high end frags with little to no money out of my pocket. If I pay $200 for a frag and can sell 4 frags at $50 it makes me happy.

I readily sell to my LFS at way below market prices. It gives me store credit or cash and I like that it leaves them meat on the bone to make a decent return. This helps them stay in business and I feel like I get treated very well when I go in for stuff.

On fb here in Holland we have a coral auction site where people can bid on the corals...you state your starting price and how much the bids increase usually 1 euro ...this is a great way for hobbyists too sell their corals , and people pay what they think they are worth rather than overpriced shop prices ..I often give corals away for free ....but then I dont have high end corals ...I'm not in this too make money , I love this hobby and if I can make someone happy from a free frag ...why not ...what goes around comes around i believe ...

First, give a frag away to a close/good friend to have as a backup if you lose yours. Then, sell them for whatever you want. Don't worry about being cheaper than other people. There is a local who has a massive amount of WD and he sells it for $40 a large frag right now, but our market is saturated with few people who want it who do not have it - in other parts of the country, people would buy him out in a few minutes.

I will often sell nice coral for really cheap, but also give stuff away. Over time, I do get a lot of nice coral from people who return the favor when they get something nice. Not everybody gives back, but I remember these people.

Lastly, you cannot overcome the karma of being greedy as a hobbyist. This seems to always come back and get people.
