How to properly switch salts.

I have been using Instant Ocean Reef Crystals since I started my tank a few years ago, 55 gallon reef with SPS and LPS. The calcium levels have consistently stayed high, 490-500 without any dosing. The other levels have all been good, but Im going to try Tropic Marin Pro reef salt, is there a proper way to transition from one salt to the other or just continue with my weekly 10% water changes and use the new salt?

Magnesium is usually really high with Reef Crystals as well. You just switch, or let your parameters drop to where your new salt mixes to and do a water change at that point.

Magnesium has been fine. I stopped dosing calcium about 6 weeks ago, only adding Alk which was not bad 7.3 ,but brought it up to 8.3.

When I switched I did 30% water changes every other week for two months.

Agree, once your bucket of salt mix is empty, just make the switch

I would make the switch and continue with the 10% water changes per week. It's not a large enough of a change to cause issues, imo.

Might also want a salt mix with a slightly higher alk level if you're dosing alk already. Tropic Marin classic mixes with a higher alk level than the pro reef. I switched to the TM classic because I like to keep my reef closer to 8.5dkh.
