Hello everyone I installed a Eshopps Eclipse slim overflow on my 85 gal and I’ve noticed it’s pretty loud, to the point where I have to turn up the volume on tv to mask the noise from overflow.

Is there anything I can do to bring the noise down? I should also mention I’m using flexible drain hose on both drains to sump and both are submerged.

Thanks!

I lived that way for 3 years until I herbied my overflow. Now it is dead silent. The noise is from air in the hoses. For herbie 2 hoses are required, some pvc fittings and a flow restriction valve. The idea is one hose takes all the flow, the other is for start and over flow. The one that takes all the flow gets restricted at the sump, fills up with water (no air), and no gurgling. Really works well.
Search for herbie for video

A video would help understand where the noise is coming from. Do you have 2 or 3 drains coming from overflow box? Do you have a valve on one drain hose?

2 drains and no valve on the drain hose

With 2 drains, going herbie style ( valve on one side only) will usually do the trick. Sometimes slowing the flow down, depending on the amount of flow currently, will help.

2 drains and no valve on the drain hose
Video no workie for me.
Google adjust Herbie style plumbing. You need a valve on one drain to create a full siphon. Some 90 deg elbows in the box may help, and you definitely need a valve on the full siphon drain hose. The other drain hose will be secondary and you definitely do not want a valve on that one

The side that does not have the riser pipe inside the overflow is the main drain and needs a gate valve to slow the flow so some water remains in the overflow and doesn't suck air down the main drain. The other side is the emergency drain and should be wide open. Some people adjust the main drain gate valve so a tiny trickle goes down the other line but I find it isn't necessary.

Will install valve on main drain. Thanks so much

If you put a two foot or whatever piece of pvc into the bottom of the bulkhead, then the valve, then hose, it will work better and quieter.
Another words, place the valve lower

Valve should/must be at the bottom of the run, at sump.

gate valve (not ball valve...not easy to fine tune) should be at sump area or behind the tank where you can access it easily
Yup. Have my valve about a foot and a half below outside overflow box. About two and 1/2 feet above sump. Like it here so I can see the level in box as I adjust. Agree, gate valve easier to fine tune but have been using a ball valve on my setup for 13 years now, works fine
