My corals have slowly closed after a water change, my zoas are now part opens and part closed. I was wondering why I can check calcium, phosphates or alkilaine, cuase i don’t have a test kit, don’t worry I ordered one already and it should arrive this week I did a quick test
Ammonia:0
Nitrite:0
Nitrate:5.0!!!!!! I believe his is very low last time I tested it was around 10pm so my question is how should I go by rasing nitrate. I went on a trip this week and didn’t feed my fish I believe cuase of the water change and lack of waste by the fish the coral over consumed the nitrates. So how should I go by raising it quickly without causing shock. AnySuggestion helps.

Sounded like you didn’t feed since you went on a trip. Resume feeding. Go a bit heavier. 5 no3 isnt bad. Just don’t let it fall below that. I hope you are getting decent test kits and not API.

Have a hard time believing the issue is nitrates - I rarely go over 5 and my zoa's are happy. They definitely get mad at 0.0 though.

Ya it’s not to low but when I feed, I really FEED like a full frozen block of mysis some times and usually feed corla every other week as they catch a lot of the mysis. I just think the corals took too much nitrate to fast and could replace it.

It’s grows fast I don’t scrape the back as it’s grows fast, I scrape the front and side daily and the algae on the sand every month.
That is where all your nitrates are. Did you use dry rock? How old is the tank? Pictures under white light can be helpful.

What size tank and how much water did you change? I see your thread history and it looks like you have a 5g pico tank.
