How to read the Red Sea Alkalinity test?

I'm starting to dose my tank now, but am struggling to understand it all. Hypothetically speaking, if my tank is reading at 9.5 dKH and I'm wanting to get to 11.5 dKH, would that be the time to dose the tank with alkalinity or would I dose if its 11.5 dKH and I want it to get to 9.5 dKH?

Dosing an alkalinity supplement such as soda ash or bicarbonate will raise your alkalinity and make the dkh number higher

Typically, it’s not safe to increase your Alk by more than .5dkh per day.

Same with decreases through consumption.

You dose only upwards and only when your water changes cannot keep up with your Stoney consumption.

Dosing an alkalinity supplement raises alkalinity. Dosing a mineral acid can reduce alkalinity, but that is far less common except on new salt water.
