Hey reefers, I decided to turn my 10 gallon nano into a coral/invert tank so I moved my Noopsyche K7 V3 light from my other tank over to it along with a couple corals...corals are doing great...the previous light was not SPS strength (I think 30W) so now I'm unfortunately having a lot of coralline algae bleaching in response to the stronger lighting along with a lot more algae growth on the glass even though my nitrates and phosphates are very low...I imagine it must be due at least in part to the settings I have the light on...I turned up the whites a good bit so I could see more of the coralline but is this possibly causing the algae outbreak? Should I turn the whites down? Also will my coralline algae adjust to the more powerful light and come back or will it stay bleached?

Light settings yes and start by reducing white light intensity
Additionally assure your phosphate and nitrate are not elevated and if none, add some snails such as:
Astrea
trochus
Turbo
Cerith
Nerite

Yeah, I keep up with my nitrates and phosphates and both are very low (a touch lower than I'd like actually) I have a few snails but will add more... starting tomorrow I'll turn down my whites. I'm 99% sure it's all about my light settings since I didn't have this problem before switching lights

Can the UV lights spur algal growth as well or is it primarily just the whites?

Yes. I keep uv at half of blue settings
As with the sun, you know the impact of uv

Ok, I'll check to see what I have them set at...I remember turning them up some, I just don't remember how much (I was trying to get a little extra fluorescence)
