How to remove dead acro colonies from rock?

After my tank up grade a couple months ago I lost a couple small sps colonies. Now i am not sure how or if to remove what is left of them. I have cut all the branches down the best a could, but now am left with two spots that are about a 1/4" thick or more and about 2-3" in diameter of dead acro skeletal structure. They are quite ugly and in prime real estate. These chunks are.. well hard as a rock.. The rock is not easily removed. I have chiseled away with some slow success. Should/Could I just leave them, placing a new acro on top hopping to have it grow over it? Is it a problem to leave it.. will it blend into rock sooner or later? What can I do with this?

Get some bone cutters and snap it off. If you can remove the rock you can also dremel the colony off.

What works real well is the ratcheting garden clippers. snap that off in a couple of pulls

I have removed everything that can be snipped (branches, nubs, stubs). What im struggling with is the base that has fused itself to the rock. There is nothing left really to grab on to. there is a frag puck underneath them but i can only barley make out where those are.

If thats the case just place new corals right on top. thats what i do anyway

Get a nice monti to encrust right over it you'll never see it again

Placing a coral over top is kind of what I was thinking. Iv never heard of doing this before so thought id see what the community had to say. Im going to chip away the best I can, put a new acro or monti frag on top, and sit and wait.
