Hey guys I have a “seasons Greetings Montipora, growing very well, but has grown over the base rock my figi leather came on. How can I move the figi without damaging it, or My Montipora?

Reefsquad are a group of helpful and knowledgeable folks who, on a volunteer basis, dedicate much of their time to helping other reefers succeed.

Some have industry experience, most are more-experienced hobbyists who want to see other hobbyists in enjoyment, rather than frustration.

And they often have the answers.

~Bruce, who's never worked with leathers, but has heard of using a sharp blade to move them

Are you able to peel it off the rock? Grab it around it's base and gently try to remove him. I just feel that with a razor if any gets left behind you may end up with another leather coral lol

Pick a razor and just cut it near the base as possible.
If the monti doesn’t kill the remains, after some months you’ll get a new Leather coral.
As per the big one you’ll have to fix it to a new rock. For that I use a toothpick and a rubber band. After 2-3 weeks the coral has already attach to the rock and I just remove them.

Excellent! Thank you for the advice!!

If it’s possible leave a small foot so you can watch the monti fighting or going around.

Leather corals are super hardy when they're healthy, go ahead and just pull or slice it off the rock and rubber band it to a piece of rubble rock.
