How to remove hair algae from a hammer?

How can I safely remove hair algae from around the hammers flesh? It's irritating it and now letting it open up. I think a toothbrush will be too harsh and from what I've read I don't want to use hydrogen peroxide. I tried to remove it with tweezers but no luck. Any ideas?

You could try a turkey baster and stuck it.

I keep a pasty brush and makeup brush for cleaning corals, more gentle, as above try a baster first.

Tried the turkey baster, sucking and blowing, made no difference and didnt work unfortunately.

go ahead an get a small clear plastic container preferably clear just large enough to hold the hammer with water in it. git yourself a pair of tweazers ya hear!!!!!!!!!!!!

never relay on emerald crabs or anything you put in the tank do it job. another thing i should mention that is commonly misinformed is they don't just slurp up bubble coral they do the same thing we do well sometimes lol is pop them cept they pop all the ones they eat xD im much better with a pair of tweezers than a crab an quicker!

Sadly that hammer doesn’t look to happy to begin with. Have you had this piece for awhile or is it something new?

well w/e he does he has to act fast this was mine 3 months ago after its first plucking as you can see all the heads receded from the sept


2 months later an a needing another plucking soon. who knows if will go back over the skeleton but good growth

You could try getting a pipet and taking him out of the water so he goes in and drip real carful peroxide at the edge and let it run Down the outside Skelton, maybe hold him at a angle. I would have a thing of saltwater ready to keep dipping him, or try a black out for a couple days to weaken its hold and then try blowing it off
