I have a RSBT anemone that has split several times, anyone have suggestions how I can remove it from the rock without killing it and polluting the the tank?

yeah you don't want to damage its foot. Only way I can think of is take the whole rock with it or frag the rock and take out the piece its on.

In the past i have moved the rock it was attached to to somewhere it didnt like and when it started to take a walk the foot was loose enough to get an edge and easily pull it off.

Two methods that work really well for me is put a power head in its direction and slightly closer than it's comfort zone, it will get annoyed and eventually detach to find a more comfortable spot. Another way is to get a turkey baster and gently squirt him with current. After a few squirts part of the foot will detach, aim the squirting behind the foot and it should detach the rest.

I've read to rub an ice cube on the foot and it will detach. Have never tried it but makes sense :) What is a RSBT anemone? rainbow sunburst?

Thanks I will try this

I'm sure you have a turkey baster, if so I suggest you turkey baste the foot until a section releases then continue to turkey baste + massage it off the rock with your fingers

Power head worked for me. I put the vortex in pulse mode, lowered the power head so it was blowing straight on the BTA and it detached within 10 minutes. No happy in a new concave rock in new tank.

Lots of good methods mentioned here I think. Never tried the ice thing I may do that next time. I've heard of both success and not so much with the power head thing. One trick my buddy taught me was to use powderless latex gloves. His theory is the animal senses the contact of skin as another animal or predator much easier then the rubber glove and will fight harder to keep a foot hold. Any truth to this I'm not certain but the last time I had to pull one a bta it did seem to put up less of a fight and no skin irritation from the sting. We used the tip of a plastic butter knife well rounded and dull to work up the edge of the foot then once we could get the tip of the finger in there a bit gently worked it back and forth. Eventually it started to let loose and it went much smoother. A lot of it depends on where the foot is anchored obviously. I have some that are anchored so deep In to the rock work I know it would be impossible to move without destroying my aquascape and hence the reason my tank that has anemones in it is dedicated to anemones. Ultimately if you can get it walking that is best if the rock cannot be removed.

I just had to do this. Power head, turkey Baster, ice (which melts really quickly) didn't work. I got my bone cutters and broke part of the rock he was on and then I was able to peel the foot off. GL.

I have a dental tool that looks like a golf club and use that to get them off the rocks, but if there are in a hole, I use another piece of LR to shade them from the light and most of the time they move
