I have 3 tanks up and running. One of them has sand and the other 2 Aragonite CC.

I have issues with the tank with sand. I have a few fish that burrow including my damsels, a purple firefish and blenny. The problem is they throw the sand all over the place. I had acans, zoas and a couple of Lobo's that I had to move to another tank because they couldn't tolerate the sand. Even low level palys on rock had to finally be removed.

I want to remove the sand and replace with the same substrate I have in the other tanks. I have a watchman goby and shrimp in one of the tanks with CC and they have no problem moving the substrate and burrowing.

Any suggestions on how to remove the sand without making a huge mess? I'd like to do this without breaking down the tank. I thought maybe just a section at a time?

Your ideas and though would be appreciated.

I used a PVC pipe when adding sand to my tank, u would imagine it would work the same.

Siphon it the sand. Then rinse the cc. Add it into the PVC pipe, SLOWLY raise the pipe and the cc will slowly come out the bottom.

Depending on how old the tank is, I would work in sections every couple of days, or once a week.

Make sure you run some extra filter floss, or replace socks every day. You'll likely get some dust and detritus in the water so they will clog quickly.
