I have heaps of dried out old media from some old freshwater tanks and some established freshwater media from a tank I have running just want to know the best way to clean them and if it's possible to use this old media in a new saltwater tank I don't want it to help cycle the tank I want I perfectly clean to have no die off in my new marine tank

Sorry how rude of me hello all new reefer here I actually just picked up my very first reef tank today so I'm super excited and very happy to be a reefer finally

Like bio balls and ceramic rings used to house bacteria I want to clean them enough so there is no dead matter to introduce into My system

All good found the info I needed goin' to soak in hydrogen peroxide

Wanted to kill everything as it's coming from a freshwater tank into my reef

1:5 mixture bleach/water.
+1

If they are "dried out" as you stated, I'm assuming you haven't had them in water of any type in a while. Likelihood of any bacteria surviving is slim to none. Best bet is to bleach them to remove any possible decaying material that you wouldn't want to introduce into your tank, they start building beneficial bacteria again.
