How can I run carbon thru my system I don't have a sump I have a protein skimmer could I put some carbon in a mesh sock and zip tie it to my return hose coming from my skimmer

I put a small mesh bag near the exit of a pump. Seems to work, so I think your idea is ok.

Make sure it’s not getting blown around tho. It will grind down.

Ok cool or do you think it would do better in front of a small wave maker it doesn't put out alot just a little surface agitation

What kind of filter are you using... is it hang on back? If so, you can drop a bag in there. Canister filter? You can add it to the canister.

I have a sponge filter completely submerged but no other kind of filter other than the skimmer

Why do you want to run carbon?

I have been dosing my tank for ich using polyp lab medic and I'm done with the cycle I've read to run carbon to get stuff out of the system. Should I leave it in there or what

I think you're right to get it out by running carbon.

But if you don't mind my saying so, your filtration is woefully inadequate for a saltwater aquarium.

Tell me more about your tank:

How big?
What kind of lighting?
What fish do you have?

I don't mind I like to learn about it. What kind of filtration should I run? And it's a 75 gallon alot of coral 2 clowns 2 chromis watchman goby pistol shrimp cherry shrimp, snails crab and a arrow head shrimp I believe is what he is called and a tuxedo sea urchin

just get a cheap HOB power filter and drop a bag of carbon in it

I think they got some bad advice. I would have opted for a better filter and skipped the protein skimmer to start. You can always do water changes to do what a protein skimmer does.

Friend, I think you got some bad advice. You have a huge tank with a heavy bio load (lots of fish) and a bubble filter to manage it all. No good.

I'm guessing your guidance is coming from a local fish store?

I was just starting and my lfs sold it to me bc I just had a 20g tank and I moved up to this 75g

What should I run to help I was told by my lfs that the live rock helps with all the filtration that's why I never really looked into getting a filter for it

Ok... your local fish store is completely unethical. Stop spending on anything else and let us help you regroup.

Thats why I'm here I want to learn from people that have done it longer and not just a store trying to sell something
