hey everyone! I’ll begin cycling my 180 gallon aquarium this weekend! My question is what all do I run during this cycle process? My sump (SkimzUP39) is set up for filter socks>refugium>skimmer>return pump. Obviously, I’ll need to run the return pump and heaters. I also plan to leave the lights off.
What about filter socks? Skimmer? And when should I put chaeto in and start the refugium?

Run the entire sump just like you normally would. If you have live rock it will have some die off and the filter socks and skimmer will pull that stuff out of the water column. As for the fuge, I would wait until your tank is done cycling and you have slowly begun to add livestock...

I would start everything and use it during the cycling process. Minimize light, and hold off on macroalgae in the refugium. What are you using to cycle your tank? Frozen shrimp, Damsels, uncured live rock etc.?

I’m plan to throw a couple jumbo shrimp in, i have live sand and a couple bottles of bio-spira. I also plan to put a rock in the sump from my existing tank!
