I am a college student and am going home for my spring break and need to take my fish(pair of ocellaris clowns and an azure damsel) with me since it will be 7 days that I will be gone. I also recently upgraded from a 20 gallon to a 50 gallon. I was thinking of getting a 10 gallon tank and some live rock from my 50 gallon, an air stone, and power head to hold the fish over for the break. I know this is going to be some stress on the fish, but they have made the trip before in the 20 gallon successfully. Does anyone have any suggestions to make the trip and break less stressful on the fish? And will the inverts and CUC be alright left behind for the trip?

I personally would suggest getting involved in the local reef club to see if someone can watch your tank for you while you are gone. If no reef club, see if you can get a friend to watch it for you...
If that is not an option, you can get a small tank and put the fish in it. That is no issue as they are all smaller fish. A normal HOB filter and air stone is all you really need for a week. Just feed less or do a small water change mid week. Your CUC will be fine if you feed the tank before you go so they have some stuff to feed on. Leave the equipment running and cover the tank to prevent salinity spikes due to evaporation.

I'm not sure about a reef club near me but my lfs want $250 each time they come out to service or anything. Thanks for the response. If I use the live rock and some water from my 50, will there be a cycle period I have to be worried about?

All 3 of your fish will be fine for 7 days.....Get your salinity down to around 1.020....leave your lights off....offer them a generic feeding block....and when you get back they'll be fine..

If you use some water and live rock from the main tank you will not see a cycle.
sredzins may be right though, with a generic feeding block you may be fine. I have not tried leaving mine for 7 days without someone to check on it, but you don't have many fish so it should be OK.
So I brought that smaller tank home and I have a power head, about 7 lbs of live rock and a sponge filter in the tank. My smaller clowns fins are starting to look somewhat tattered. I am monitoring parameters closely and nothing is showing up abnormal in tests. What could cause this? All the other fish look fine
