Ok i need to figure something out. Last time I shipped it cost me 143$! Can you open an account with fed ex to save on shipping costs? Just wondering if there is a better way to do this. I use specimen cups which takes up more room in a box, but Ive never had a doa doing it this way. Any tips on how to save would be appreciated. Im sorry but when im selling a nice pack of 10 corals for 200 and I have to pay 150 in shipping something needs to change.

An account with FedEx will give you a 20% discount I believe. Beyond that unless you have a fairly decent volume overnight is gonna cost. You have to ship a fair bit before the really good volume discounts will kick in.

USPS Express.... Enough said.

FWIW, I didn't notice a difference with opening an account with UPS. The price was the same through paypal, UPS site w/out account and UPS site w/ account.

Just throwing that out there :)

sweet I was thinking that an account would help a little but didnt want to open one until id gotten some feedback from everybody.

Size of the box helps too, as well as volume.

You can try using smaller boxes to ship frags instead of large boxes.

I had a FedEx account and it didn't save me anything. It cost me the same and I was shipping weekly. The down side of a fedex account was my last shipment cost me $80 so I thought. A few days later I had $110 charge on the fedex account. This was the second time this happen to me. The first time it was on $5.00 change and I got the same answer but I let it go because it was $5. I called FedEx and I was told they can change the price, it subject to change. I wasn't given a reason for the price change and the customer service rep said she didn't know why. So if you do open an account with FedEx read the agreement on what they can charge you before you open the account.

I use as small a box as I can get away with but I really like the specimen cup method and floating especially sps upside down, I rarely have breakage and have never had a reported doa.

I believe simply having a login name on ups or fedex does not mean you have an actual shipping account if that makes sense. In order to have an actual "account" you have to set up more than just a basic registry info. I only say this because that is how our shipping account I have at work operates. I can login into ups under my personal login get one quote and then of course login to the company account and it is significantly less.

You will need to set up a shipping account with a "shipping coordinator" setting up volumes and that stuff...
